Initially North Steel was the obvious and natural result of a steelpan class at North Leeds Music Centre [managed by Leeds ArtForms Music Service], and came into existence six-ish years ago with leader, Victoria Jaquiss. Then with Jermaine Peterson taking over leader, Victoria went on to grow a new band at Horsforth Music Centre. Now it is led by Helen Cossavella, and goes from strength to strength.

The band operates separately and also joins up for the bigger gigs with the new adult music centre steelband that operates from Meanwood Community Centre.

The class, and now the band which practises/rehearses at Meanwood is Mean Steel, and is run by Victoria Jaquiss and Wanda Thorpe. Classes this term are
